Questions and Answers on the Still Speaking CampaignIntroduction to the UCC, by Davida Foy Crabtree Conference Minister's Pastoral Letters |
God Is Still Speaking is the theme of the United Church of Christ's national identity campaign for 2004/2005, which will use national television commercials, print advertisements, and a common set of tools that will enable unchurched people to better identify the UCC and its congregations. The theme emphasizes God's continued presence and activity in the world, especially in the dynamic and welcoming setting that is the United Church of Christ.
The television campaign will run from December 1-26. Over 150 million people will see at least one of the two ads three times each. The television spots were funded primarily from special gifts from the local churches to the denomination for this effort.
2,195 UCC churches nationwide and 143 of Connecticut's congregations have committed to participate in the initial program. These churches are training their leadership to welcome and assist potential visitors who have been attracted by the media campaign. In Connecticut, those leaders attended one of twenty training events. They are also engaging in reflection on what it means to be the church in the 21st century, and what it means to be part of such a denomination as the United Church of Christ.
