What camera should I buy? Also can someone explain the differences between Nikon and Canon? I am a photography student and I am looking for a good intermediate dslr camera. I am familiar with the Olympus E-PL1 and I have been shooting with the Pentax K-1000 for a year now. I am at that time in my studies were I am switching from film to digital and need a more professional camera. I am looking for a good overall camera that works well in most conditions. I would like to stay in the $1000 price range or lower. I have been looking at the Nikon D7000. Any thoughts?

The most detrimental aspect of a trail camera is overuse. A new unit in the hands of a first-timer is like a toy.

Pre-season and in-season uses for your scouting camera are generally functional in nature. Your hope is to obtain information from your cameras that will contribute to a successful hunt. Now that the hunting season is over, you have a few months to experiment and simply have fun. Your goal is no longer to pattern deer or develop a hunting strategy, so you can afford to be more creative in the placement of your cameras - to obtain shots from unique perspectives or get images of animals seen infrequently.
