The first aid from United Church of Christ churches -- in the form of funds contributed through One Great Hour of Sharing offerings -- arrived through partner agency Church World Service (CWS) within twenty-four hours. 03/05/2010Conference Minister Will Retire in MayHARTFORD -- Connecticut Conference Minister the Rev. Dr. Davida Foy Crabtree, who has exercised that ministry since 1996, has notified the authorized ministers and local church moderators of her plan to retire from active ministry in the United Church of Christ on May 15, 2010. In her letter, circulated via email and also via post, she named the events of the last two years as the signals that it is the correct time for her retirement. 03/05/2010Green That's RealMIDDLETOWN -- Resolutions come easy. Executing them takes work. Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change said in December, "The world walks away from Copenhagen with a deal." He then added, "So the challenge is now to turn [the agreement] into something real, measurable and verifiable." 03/05/2010Massive Earthquake Rocks Chile; UCC Calls for AidCONCEPCION, CHILE -- Just six weeks after the Caribbean nation of Haiti suffered a major earthquake, 7.0 on the Richter scale, another tremblor with 500 times the force brought down buildings in the South American country of Chile. The Feb. 27 quake scored 8.8 on the Richter scale, making it one of the most powerful ever recorded. Within hours, emergency staff from Church World Service (CWS) and the United Church of Christ began their work to bring aid to the stricken area. 03/01/2010Rescue Underscores Need for Aid; UCC Gifts Surpass $1.3 MillionPORT-AU-PRINCE, HAITI -- Six weeks after the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti, the ACT Alliance has assisted more than 150,000 people with direct aid, according to published reports. With steady support continually rolling in from key organizations such as the United Church of Christ, most of the aid has gone toward supplying fresh water, sanitation efforts, shelter, meals and food staples. Relief items and services including family kits, hygiene sets, medical assistance and health-clinic supplies continue to be distributed. 02/26/2010Conference Minister Transition: Suggestions Sought for Members of the Search CommitteeHARTFORD -- The Connecticut Conference Board of Directors has asked church leaders throughout the state for recommendations as they assemble a Search Committee for a new Conference Minister. Board Chair the Rev.
